Who Says You Can't Follow your Bliss?

Shavon Walton

...and just who is it up to anyway?

So many times we get so bogged down in the whole craziness of our lives that we forget who is actually in charge here. Sometimes it feels like some kind of conspiracy that we somehow have been "sucked" into. You struggle to get an education, a good job. After all, you need these things to pay for the nice car that you need to get to the good job, and the nice clothes that you have to have to work at the good job and the wonderful house. Not to mention these things come in pretty handy when you want to raise a family. The trouble is, often the great job, the nice car and the beautiful house takes up so much of your time, money and energy, that you barely get to notice, much less enjoy the nice car, the beautiful house, the great clothes and (dare I say it) the wonderful family. At some point many of us realize that we are on this crazy non-stop roller coaster ride and we know we want to, have to, get off - but alas - you need your job and who has the time or energy to "follow bliss" when bills are due, work is demanding and time consuming and frankly your "bliss" may not exactly lead to independent wealth? So, often the response when I speak about "bliss" is a skeptical look of "Are you serious?" I have even had people say to me, "Look, you can't just follow your bliss!"

But what if you could ...

But what if you did ...

Once you start to dig deeper, most people find that no one other than themselves told them that bliss is elusive. Upon further reflection, most people also acknowledge that the decision is theirs alone.

The fact is, you can follow your bliss, whatever it may be. That is, if you don't limit yourself just because no one else is doing it or even because everyone else is doing it. Some people allow money issues, time issues and most often fear make the determination of the direction of their lives. This can only lead to a life of frustration, lack and dissatisfaction. The fact is, there is always enough money and time to do what you love. I will go a step further to say that if you would just start doing what you love without regard for money, what your boss and co-workers may say, or what your friends may say or what the neighbors may think, you will emit an incredible peaceful and loving energy that will attract the resources and the people that you need to make the thing that you love financially prosperous. You may be thinking:

But what if it doesn't ...

Then the worse thing that will have come out of it is that you did something that you love.

I read an article recently that has had a profound effect on me and the way that I think about what I am supposed to be doing with my own life. The writer explained that the term "Follow your bliss and the money will follow" evolved over time (Lozoff, 2006). While, this may be true, the phrase originally was simply "Follow your bliss." The point is, we all have a right even a responsibility to fulfill whatever that desire is. It is no accident that you are so passionate about your bliss. It is within you for a reason. The peace, the fulfillment, the joy that you seek, is seeking you also. So decide today

I can ...

I will...

I am.
